The Last 5 | Walsall

22 April 2022

Ahead of our game against Walsall, we take a closer at the forms of both clubs ahead of the clash.

Walsall Last Five Games - LWLLL

The reverse fixture between the sides ended in a 1-0 defeat at Vale Park where Brendan Kiernan was the only goal-scorer for the Saddlers.

More recently, Michael Flynn’s side have struggled to find results with just one win in their past five EFL League Two fixtures.

This five-match run began with a 2-1 defeat to Salford City where the Ammies came back from one goal down to win thanks to two second-half goals.

Their last match was an away trip against Crawley Town where a second-half goal from Isaac Hutchinson was enough to take three points on the day for Crawley.

Their sole win in this five-match run came against Carlisle United where a goal from Jack-Earing in first-half added-time gave Flynn’s side the win on the day.

A 1-0 result has been a common occurrence for the Exiles this season. Three of their past five fixtures have ended in a 1-0 result. Overall, for the season, they have been involved in a 1-0 result 16 times.

Port Vale Last Five Games – LWWWW

The Vale tasted defeat for the first time in over a month when Bristol Rovers came back from a 1-0 deficit to clinch a 1-3 victory at Vale Park.

Assistant manager Andy Crosby and his side had won eight and drawn only once before that loss to the Gas.

Scoring four in the past five games, Jamie Proctor has been the star man for Vale with 13 goals so far in the league this season.

Aside from Proctor, goals have come from all over the pitch for the Valiants with Harry Charsley excelling in particular with three goal contributions in the past five matches.

Two of the past five fixtures for the Vale have been away from home and have resulted in 1-0 victories against Hartlepool and Salford City.

This fixture is the penultimate away game for the Vale before traveling to Exeter on the final day of the season.
