The role of Head of Coaching (HOC)  is to establish a sustainable system and approach to coach development within Port Vale's Academy.
The (HOC) will develop the academy coaches so that they improve and perform to the best of their potential and are consequently able to maximise the potential of the players that they work with. Self-development will be core to this role - the successful candidate will need to have the ability to self-evaluate their coaching knowledge to ensure that it is up to date and forward thinking. They will need to have an active approach to their coaching competencies and continue to develop and enhance their skills.

The (HOC) will be accountable for all coach development within the structure and will have the ability to design and implement Academy Performance Plans (APP) and Training Needs Analysis using the coach competency framework (CCF) for all coaches.

The (HOC) will have strong communication skills to enable them to build relationships throughout the academy and broader club. The (HOC) will build relationships with the coaches ensuring that they understand how to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team (MDT).

It is a fundamental part of the role of (HOC) to ensure the academy’s coaching curriculum is consistently delivered in line with the academy’s playing and coaching philosophy.
Port Vale Academy is looking for a motivated individual who has a passion for working with coaches and is looking to take ownership of coach development within the academy. The individual will need to be organised, methodical and have the ability to plan and structure the department.

It is vital the successful candidate has the drive to continue their own professional development and promotes the development of others.
The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills be able to interact with a diverse range of people and have the ability to listen to others perspectives.

It is essential that the successful candidate can use a broad range of influencing skills to win people over and sell the development agenda and can communicate their plans and structures confidently and effectively.
The successful candidate will have a resilient disposition and be able to cope under pressure and within limited time restraints. They will need to be able to prioritise work effectively, analyse behaviour and have the ability to solve problems.

The essential skills, knowledge and experiences required for this role are detailed below:

  • Significant experience in a football coaching role within an elite learning and/or          performance environment
  • Previous experience within an Academy structure
  • Previous experience in mentoring and/or people development
  • Extensive knowledge of learning in coaches (Andragogy) and/or young people (Pedagogy)
  • Experience in designing development programmes
  • The ability to manage and lead a team

Essential qualifications:

  • UEFA A License Qualification / Advanced Youth Award – or working towards
  • Safeguarding and Child Protection
  • Educated to Degree Level, or equivalent (any discipline)
  • Emergency First Aid / BFAS
  • Current FA CRC disclosure

Desirable skills, knowledge and experiences required for this role are detailed below:

  • Experience in Sport Science
  • Coaching and Mentoring Qualification
  • Very good knowledge of the EPPP
  • Ability to use the Premier League PMA
  • Driving License (and use of own car)

Desirable qualifications:

  • UEFA Pro License
