PREVIEW: Port Vale vs Forest Green Rovers

15 September 2017

Fixture – Port Vale vs Forest Green Rovers

Date – 16th September 2017

Venue – Vale Park

Preview

Port Vale will play host to Forest Green Rovers for the first time in league history as Saturday's visitors make the two-hour journey from Gloucestershire.

As we head into game week 8 of the 2017/18 Sky Bet League Two campaign, both sides will be hoping to turn a run of poor results around this weekend.

The visitors currently sit one point and one place above Vale, so a win would see the Valiants leapfrog Forest Green and move up the table.

The Opposition

Since reaching the Football League for the first time in their history this season, Forest Green Rovers would have wanted to enjoy a better start to life in League Two.

They have only won one and drew one in their opening seven matches, where they came in a 4-3 victory over Yeovil Town and a 2-2 draw with Barnet.

Rovers will be hoping to finish a solid league finish come end of the season, so will be looking to take full advantage over the Valiants on Saturday.

This will be the second competitive game in both team's history where the first encounter occurred in November 2012 where a Ben Williamson header denied Forest Green's hopes in the FA Cup, during a 3-2 win for Vale.

Talk

Michael Brown: "We need a win. "It's a day where we certainly want to take the three points."

Mark Cooper: "We go to Port Vale next and if we play with the same determination, we'll be alright."

Team News

Port Vale will be without goalkeeper Rob Lainton as he suffered an injury last weekend against Coventry City, ruling him out. Apart from Rob, there are no new fresh injury concerns, as Danny Pugh, Cristian Montano, Kjell Knops and Anton Forrester continue to recover.
