The Valiants travel south to the Lamex Stadium on Saturday afternoon to face Stevenage in Sky Bet League Two, but how did we fare last time out against the Boro?
On the 5th of November 2016, Vale hosted Stevenage in an FA Cup first round tie and it was Bruno Ribiero’s men who came out on top to progress to the second round.
During an entertaining tie in Burslem, the visitors came an offside flag away from taking the lead on 23 minutes. Ben Kennedy tapped in from close range, but it was ruled out by the officials.
The all-important goal then came Vale’s way seven minutes before half-time as Remie Streete rose above his marker to head a Jerome Thomas cross into the back of the net.
Anthony de Freitas almost doubled the Valiants’ advantage in the second half, but he failed to hit the target from a very promising position. Boro almost found a leveller deep into stoppage time, only to be denied by the post and the home side held on to seal victory.
