de Freitas on Michael Brown and English Football

10 January 2017

After a period of change at Port Vale, Anthony de Freitas spoke exclusively to Valiant PlayerHD about the recent changes at the club, as well as his time spent in England so far.

The Frenchman commented on the weekend’s defeat away at Huddersfield Town: “We are very disappointed, I think we could have done a little bit more. We played good for 30 minutes but then committed a few mistakes that led to goals, but that is football.

“Huddersfield played some really good football, but I feel that if we showed a bit more ambition we could have done more.”

Michael Brown has now been at the helm of the Burslem based club since Bruno Ribeiro’s resignation during the busy festive fixtures, and de Freitas is happy with Ribeiro’s replacement, and the job he has done so far: “It is very good to work with him and Ned Kelly. He is professional footballer himself and he gives us very good advice.

The 22-year old is aware of Brown’s career and is relishing working with him as manager and player: “I am a central midfielder like him and he is very good for me. He is a warrior on the pitch himself and he wants us to press and fight, as well as have a good attitude. He is very good for the team.”

Since Brown’s appointment, de Freitas has started every game, and is subsequently growing in confidence: “He gives me confidence because I have played with him and I hope it will continue. I hope we have until at least the end of the season with him.”

After his transfer in the summer, the ex-Monaco man is enjoying his time in England and has no intention of quitting English football any time soon: “League One is very difficult with regards to the quality, the intensity and physicality. You have to fight every game. Not one game has been easy.

“It is a very good stadium here at Port Vale and a good pitch as well. The fans are wonderful, and the squad has a lot of quality. For me it is the best footballing country in the world, I want to stay here.”

De Freitas will be hoping to keep up his run in the starting eleven come Saturday when the Valiants host MK Dons. Vale won the corresponding fixture 1-0 at Stadium:MK and will be looking for three points in this fixture.
