Harness: "It’s been a long time coming."

15 December 2017

Marcus Harness has high hopes that Port Vale can get their busy Christmas period off to a good start tomorrow as the Valiants travel to Carlisle United.

Vale will make the long journey north to Cumbria tomorrow in hope of gaining three points to push on away from the dreaded drop zone.

Harness, scored his first goal for Vale in the week at Yeovil Town where his sublime curling effort saw his side lose 3-2 after extra time, despite having nine men.

The 23-year old admitted that he was relieved to get his first-goal and is hopeful that he can get a few more.

He said: “It was good to finally get a goal.

“It’s been a long time coming, hopefully now I’ve got my first I can get them to start flowing.

“It’s always good to score goals, once you have that feeling – you want it again.

“Hopefully I can build on that and it’ll make it easier to do it again.”

Despite playing in a number of different positions this season, the left-winger doesn’t mind where he plays, but is just pleased to be getting regular game time.

“I’ve played just about everywhere!” the Burton Albion loanee joked.

“I like to come in off the line, on the left to come in central usually. I do like starting centrally too but I will play wherever I am asked.”

As Vale travel North tomorrow, Marcus is aware of United’s threat at Brunton Park as Vale approach this crucial time of the campaign.

He said: “We’ve only got the league to worry about now, that’s the most important thing.

“It’s all about building momentum. If we can get a win to get that momentum rolling.

“Tomorrow will be a long journey, I’ve only been to Carlisle once before and I remember it being a big pitch so it’ll be similar to Vale Park.

“We’re up for the challenge and the performance from the other night has given us a massive confidence boost.”
