Monty Speaks on Cambridge United Result

10 December 2017

Cristian Montano was in jubilant mood on Saturday afternoon after his brace lifted Vale to victory at home to Cambridge United in Sky Bet League Two.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, the game went ahead and it proved to be an enjoyable afternoon for the Valiants.

The 25-year-old winger found the net in both halves to secure an important set of three points for Vale, but he was quick to praise the overall team performance.

“We worked well together today and we grafted towards the end to get the result,” said Montano.

“It was good to get a clean sheet and that will build confidence for the team.

“Everybody dug in for each other and we did what the manager asked us to do. Getting the result was important for us.”

Following a spell on the sidelines due to injury, Montano is enjoying his football again and he admits that scoring twice will boost his confidence.

His first goal was particularly very well taken, with the finish from just inside the area planting into the top corner to send Vale in at half-time with a one-goal lead.

Describing that strike, he said: “It was a great pass from David Worrall, I managed to get a good touch and I reacted quickly.

“I was able to put it into the top corner and I’m glad it dropped in.”

He also believes that gaining a victory was vital as the Valiants head into a busy few weeks of football during the festive period.

Neil Aspin’s men make the trip to Yeovil Town on Tuesday night for an Emirates FA Cup Second Round replay, and Montano is looking forward to the tie.

He said: “It’s very important that we grind out results and get as many points as we can in the league to climb the table.

“Tuesday night’s game is key too, both for the players and the supporters.

“We know a tie at home to Bradford City awaits the winner so hopefully we can get the result.

“Then we can look forward to the Third Round at Vale Park.”
