Preview

The Valiants have recorded some positive results over the last few weeks and they will be hoping that Tuesday’s clash will bring some festive cheer to Vale Park.

Saturday’s draw with Colchester United means Neil Aspin’s men have picked up seven points from their last three games, and they continue to move away from the bottom two.

The Opposition

After suffering relegation from the third tier last season, Coventry City will be wanting to bounce back out of Sky Bet League Two at the first attempt, and they have made a promising start to the 2017/18 campaign.

The Sky Blues sit fourth in the division at the halfway stage and they lie one point outside the automatic promotion spaces.

With victories over Cheltenham Town and Wycombe Wanderers being recorded in the last week, Mark Robins’ men will be looking to make it a trio of victories when they make the journey to Vale Park.

Talk

Neil Aspin: “Coventry are a team that are doing well and they’re probably one of the fancied teams. It’s a big club with history and tradition, and it’s a good game to have on Boxing Day.

“Hopefully we can put on a good display in front of our home supporters.”

Mark Robins: “Today was a moving game. We have moved up the table and overtaken Wycombe. It puts us in a really good position.

“We have got a rhythm. There is a new player coming in, and it will give us a lift.”

Team News

Vale still remain without James Gibbons after the defender was dismissed during the Emirates FA Cup defeat to Yeovil Town. He still has to serve two games of his suspension.

Long term absentees Kjell Knops and Adam Yates remain sidelined, but Joe Davis has recovered from an injury and he will be available after he started the clash at Colchester.

The Sky Blues will be without two key figures as Jodi Jones and Tony Andreu are both ruled out for the season with Anterior Cruciate Ligament injuries.

Liam Kelly is nearing a return from a heel injury, but he could miss out. Tom Bayliss is likely to retain his starting berth in the centre of midfield, but Peter Vincenti is doubtful after limping off during the victory over Wycombe Wanderers.
