Last Time We Met - Wycombe Wanderers

11 August 2017

It has been almost four years since Port Vale entertained Wycombe Wanderers at Vale Park and if it is going to be similar to the last game, then Vale fans will be in for a treat.

Back in the 2012/13 season, Vale clinched promotion from League Two to League One and were in fine form throughout the campaign.

On the 20th of October 2012, Wycombe came to Burslem and they were undone by Micky Adams side during the second half at Vale Park.

However, things didn’t get off to the best start, as Wycombe went ahead through Joel Grant, after he converted a spot kick, when John McCombe was adjudged to have brought down Bruno Andrade.

With the team set to go into the break, Jo Kuffour saw a second yellow and was sent for an early bath, leaving Wycombe down to ten man.

Then, after the half time interval, Vale got into their stride and punished the visiors by getting an equaliser after 59 minutes thanks to Ben Williamson.

Tom Pope then put Vale into the lead under 10 minutes later, after the number 11 rose highest in the penalty area to head home from six yards.

Pope got his second three minutes from time with another superb header, this time from a Kingsley James cross.

Finally, into injury time, Ashley Vincelot put the icing on the cake for Vale with a shot from 30 yards out, which found its way into the back of the net to make it Port Vale 4-1 Wycombe Wanderers.
