It is never easy to judge your team, or in fact new player, by their performance in pre-season friendlies, but Vale showed enough to leave the fans reasonably happy with what they had witnessed, despite the scoreline.

Vale played some decent passing football without seriously threatening the visitors’ defence during the first half, but there was plenty of movement.

A low drive from Sam Foley saw Forest ‘keeper De Vries go full length to his right to push the ball around his upright, with the home side looking more of a threat.

JJ Hooper hit a form shot from the edge of the box after good work by Forrester, but De Vries was well position to make a catch to prevent Vale from pulling a goal back.
