Manager Rob Page said the timing of his side’s goals were key as Port Vale beat Barnsley 2-1 at Oakwell.
Ajay Leitch-Smith scored his first goal for the club five minutes before half time and then Sam Foley doubled the Valiants’ lead just after the break.
The Tykes pulled one back deep into the second half through Sam Winnall but Vale saw out the pressure and came away with three points.
Speaking to Valiant PlayerHD following the game, Page was also pleased with his players’ defensive resilience against Lee Johnson’s outfit.
“Great timings, of the goals, great timings,” he commented. “We see the half out, we go in, we address a few things at half time that we maybe paid them a little too much respect.
“But it’s about getting that balance right of going and playing and being defensively solid and I thought we did it in parts first half.
“We came out second half, get the goal early doors, it’s two-nil and a totally different game then and it’s about being disciplined in your defending and keeping your shape.”
