Voting Open For April & May Goal Of The Month Award

6 May 2015

Select Your Favourite Strike For The Gong

The season might be over but we still have a Goal of the Month award to give out.

Port Vale secured League One safety in April with a win at Yeovil Town and there are plenty of quality goals that are worth voting for, including one from that win at Huish Park, in this month’s competition.

Also, there was only one game and one goal in May, that being against Fleetwood Town on Sunday, so we’ve decided to combine the award for both months

Overall the Valiants netted seven times in the final five weeks of the campaign but we’ve whittled the nominations down to just four.

To vote, simply go to the club’s official Twitter feed and ‘favourite’ the post containing the video of the goal of your choice. Voting closes at midday on Friday 8th May.

Goal A - Louis Dodds vs. Colchester United

Although Vale ended up losing this one, there’s no doubting the quality of Louis Dodds’ strike against the U’s. The ball was lofted in from a corner on the far side, Chris Robertson knocked it into the path of the forward, who flicked it up before volleying home.

Goal B – Richard Duffy vs. Scunthorpe United

Another goal from a corner but a less likely scorer this time. Once again the ball was floated into the box, Neill Collins rose highest to nod it towards the back post where Richard Duffy chested it down before firing past Luke Daniels.

Goal C – Tom Pope vs. Yeovil Town

Possibly Tom Pope’s most important goal of the season, this strike sent Vale on their way to three points at Huish Park and, ultimately, safety in the third tier. Ben Williamson controlled the ball in the area before laying it off for his strike-partner who nestled it neatly in the top corner to send the travelling Valiants wild.

Goal D – Michael O’Connor vs. Fleetwood Town

Vale’s final goal of 2014/15 was courtesy of the Supporters’ Club, Players’ Player and Player of the Year. Michael O’Connor picked up the ball in the Cod Army’s half before shooting from outside the box. It took a deflection on it’s way but found the bottom corner nonetheless.

Below is a video showing all four goals.
