Having joined from Walsall earlier this summer, Purkiss has so far featured in all of the club’s friendlies but Tuesday night was his first appearance on home turf in Vale colours.

Speaking exclusively to Valiant PlayerHD after the match against Ricardo Moniz’s Magpies, the 31-year-old was in high spirits.

“I’m a little bit tired to be honest, first 90 minutes of pre-season,” he said. “We worked quite hard yesterday as well in a double session.

“It’s a big pitch as well, as everyone says, and it didn’t disappoint so it was good to get 90 minutes under my belt.

“I might be tired but that’s what pre-season is all about.”
