With the new calendar year now underway, we take a look back at Port Vale’s 2014 in numbers.


– The highest number of goals scored by the Valiants in a competitive game in 2014. They beat Hartlepool 6-2 at home in the Capital One Cup.6


– The number of goals Vale striker Tom Pope bagged for the club over the course of last year. Five of these were scored over the first four games of the current season.15


– The number of competitive fixtures Port Vale played in 2014, including League Cup, FA Cup and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy ties.53

– The highest attendance at Vale Park in 2014 came as the Valiants hosted promotion-chasing Sheffield United on Boxing Day. Ben Williamson and Dany N’Guessan scored to earn Rob Page’s side a 2-1 win.8,524


– The highest number of consecutive games Vale went without defeat in 2014 came in August, at the start of the current season. A draw against Walsall on the opening day was followed by back-to-back wins over Hartlepool and Doncaster Rovers before another draw at Oldham Athletic.4


– The total number of clean sheets the Valiants kept over the course of 2014. Their first of the current campaign came in an emphatic 3-0 win over Leyton Orient in October.8


– The number of games Vale won during 2014. Their first was away at Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup as Jordan Hugill, Ben Williamson and Jennison Myrie-Williams netted in a 3-2 victory. Their last triumph of the calendar year was against Sheffield United on Boxing Day.17
