Speaking to the local press, Williamson admitted it was nice to be in and amongst the team again following his spell on the sidelines.

“It was obviously good to get back into the swing of things,” he said.

“I’ve had two weeks off and I didn’t really enjoy being injured to be honest, I don’t think anyone does but it was nice to get back into the group and obviously winning as well.”

On the victory itself, he added: “It was a massive win, going away on the back of two disappointing results so it was nice to go there and keep a clean sheet as well which is important.”

He said: “We know it’s not going to be the same game as when we went there and won three-one which was a good result really.

“We know they’re going to come here and put in a good performance against us, they’re on the back of a good run, so their spirits will be high, their confidence will be high but so is ours because we won on Saturday as well.”

On the back of that victory at Walsall, Williamson believes Vale now have it in their locker to put a string of positive results together.

“They [Doncaster] have been on a good run so hopefully we can put our own run together now,” he added.

“Hopefully winning on Saturday can be the start of things and they can come here, we can put on a good show on Saturday and hopefully get three points.”
