Betting Preview: Port Vale vs. Preston North End

17 April 2015

Fancy A Flutter On The Valiants This Evening?

Port Vale are 15/4 underdogs with Football League sponsors Sky Bet to beat Preston North End this evening.

The Valiants welcome Simon Grayson’s promotion-chasing side to Vale Park tonight in a crunch match for both clubs.

Rob Page’s men drew 1-1 win Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night but they’re 12/1 to go one better and beat the Lilywhites 1-0.

In their last home game, Vale fought out a goalless stalemate with MK Dons and the hosts are 11/1 to do exactly that this evening.

Tom Pope and Ben Williamson are joint favourites among the Valiants to score first at 8/1.

Preston striker Joe Garner heads the first goalscorer betting at 7/2 ahead of team-mate Jermaine Beckford, who is available at 9/2 as he looks to net for the third game in a row.

Barnsley vs. Peterborough United
A play-off finish is now all but mathematically out of reach for Barnsley and Peterborough ahead of Saturday’s clash between the sides. The pair are both nine points behind sixth-placed Chesterfield with a much worse goal difference than the Spireites ahead of the season’s final three matches. Barnsley have been made the 6/4 favourites by Sky Bet for a home win, Peterborough can be supported at 9/5 and the draw is a 23/10 chance. The Tykes are on a seven-match winless run that has quelled momentum following a winning sequence of six games. Peterborough are also out of form on a five-game winless sequence. Three of Posh’s last four away contests have contained exactly two goals and you can get 9/2 for that mark this weekend.
Top Tip: Exactly two goals to be scored at 9/2.

Bristol City vs. Coventry City
Bristol City confirmed their promotion to the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday night with a 6-0 win at Bradford. Now the target for the Robins is the title and the trophy will be secured if they beat Coventry at home on Saturday or if second-placed Preston lose at Port Vale on Friday night.  Bristol City are 1/2 favourites to defeat Coventry, who are on offer at 6/1 for a surprise win. The draw is available at 3/1. Robins forward Aaron Wilbraham is the 7/2 favourite in the first goalscorer betting, while the top Coventry contender is Frank Nouble at 8/1. James Tavernier scored twice, including the opening goal, in Bristol City’s big midweek victory and is 14/1 to net first again.
Top Tip: James Tavernier to score first at 14/1.

Colchester United vs. Scunthorpe United
Colchester host Scunthorpe on Saturday in a vital game at the bottom of the Sky Bet League 1 table. The U’s sit second-bottom with a three-point gap to safety, while the Iron are the other side of the line with a four-point advantage over Notts County in the final relegation place. Colchester have been made Sky Bet’s 7/5 favourites to win this game, Scunthorpe are on offer at 9/5 and the draw can be found at 12/5. The U’s lost 6-0 at Chesterfield in midweek but are in better form at home with two victories claimed on the spin. Scunthorpe drew 1-1 at home to Port Vale on Tuesday night but they have conceded two goals in each of their previous two away matches. Colchester can be backed to score exactly two goals at 5/2 this weekend.
Top Tip: Colchester to score exactly two goals at 5/2

Crawley Town vs. Notts County
Crawley and Notts County sit level on 47 points ahead of this clash between the two sides closest to moving out of the relegation zone. Leyton Orient in 20th are only ahead of the pair on goal difference so victory for either team would be a huge boost to their survival prospects. County are only just favourites for the win at 8/5, Crawley can be supported at 13/8 and the draw is on offer at 23/10. Crawley have lost their last couple of games on the road but did beat Oldham 2-0 in their previous home match. County are on a nine-match winless run with the last five of those games finishing as a draw. There shouldn’t be much between the teams in this contest.
Top Tip: The draw at 23/10.

Crewe Alexandra vs. Walsall
Crewe know victory at home to Walsall would give their Sky Bet League 1 survival hopes a massive boost. The Alex only have a one-point gap back to the relegation zone and are the outsiders at 23/10 for three points on Saturday. Walsall are Sky Bet’s 6/5 favourites for the win and the draw can be backed at 9/4. The visiting Saddlers have won two matches on the spin to give themselves a seven-point advantage over the bottom four. Jordy Hiwula scored twice in Walsall’s 5-0 win over Crawley on Tuesday night and he’s an interesting 6/1 option in the first goalscorer betting. Crewe forward Nicky Ajose and Walsall striker Tom Bradshaw share favouritism in that market at 5/1.
Top Tip: Jordy Hiwula to score first at 6/1.

Doncaster Rovers vs. Fleetwood Town
Fleetwood’s play-off ambitions are now hanging by a thread ahead of Saturday’s trip to Doncaster. The Cod Army are eight points behind sixth-placed Chesterfield with only nine points left to play for in their remaining three games. Doncaster are Sky Bet’s 21/20 for the three points, Fleetwood can be found at 13/5 and the draw is a 23/10 option. Rovers won 1-0 at Leyton Orient on Tuesday night to claim just a second victory in eight games.  Fleetwood are desperate to bounce back after two defeats in a row and they have claimed away victories at Doncaster’s Yorkshire rivals Barnsley and Sheffield United during 2015. Kyle Bennett has scored three of Doncaster’s last four goals and he’s an interesting option at 17/2 in the first goalscorer betting. His Rovers team-mate Nathan Tyson heads that market at 11/2, while the top Fleetwood contenders are Jamie Proctor and David Ball at 6/1.
Top Tip: Kyle Bennett to score first at 17/2.

Gillingham vs. Rochdale
Rochdale are the 7/5 favourites to keep their play-off dream alive with three points against Gillingham on Saturday. Dale have only won one of their last four outings to fall seven points behind sixth-placed Rochdale but they do have a game in hand. Hosts Gillingham are priced up at 7/4 by Sky Bet to claim victory and the draw can be backed at 5/2. The Gills claimed a creditable 2-2 draw at second-placed Preston in midweek to follow on from a 1-0 win at home to Bradford. Three of the last five games at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium have been decided by just one goal and you can get 9/2 for just the one goal in this contest.
Top Tip: Exactly one goal to be scored at 9/2.

MK Dons vs. Leyton Orient
Collecting 16 points out of the last 18 available has reignited MK Dons’ bid for an automatic promotion place. The Dons host struggling Leyton Orient on Saturday and have been priced up by Sky Bet as the 8/13 favourites for victory. Orient are the outsiders at 9/2 and the draw is on offer at 14/5. The O’s are outside of the relegation zone courtesy of their superior goal difference to Notts County and Crawley. The East London outfit are though on a three-match winless run and would struggle to pick a much tougher test this weekend. Dons striker Will Grigg has scored seven goals in his last five games, including three doubles. The Brentford loanee heads the first goalscorer odds at 7/2 and can be backed for another brace at 9/2. Chris Dagnall is considered the top Orient prospect to net first at 7/1.
Top Tip: Will Grigg to score twice at 9/2.

Oldham Athletic vs. Chesterfield
A sixth win in seven games could make sure of Chesterfield’s place in the play-offs when they travel to Oldham on Saturday. The Spireites need to return with three points and hope Rochdale lose at Gillingham. Chesterfield are the 11/10 favourites with Sky Bet for the win, Oldham can be supported at 12/5 and the draw is on offer at exactly the same price. Mid-table Oldham are without a win in five games but look to have already done enough to avoid a late scrap for survival.  Both teams have scored in all four of Athletic’s previous four games and you can get 8/11 for that run to extend to five matches this weekend.
Top Tip: Both teams to score at 8/11.

Sheffield United vs. Bradford City
There should be plenty of excitement in the Yorkshire derby between Sheffield United and Bradford as both sides look to bounce back from disappointing midweek defeats. The Blades are Sky Bet’s 17/20 favourites for the home win despite losing 1-0 at bottom-of-the-table Yeovil on Tuesday night. Bradford were beaten 6-0 by Sky Bet League 1 leaders Bristol City and are outsiders at 16/5 to bounce back with three points. The draw can be selected at 5/2. Eight of Sheffield United’s last nine home games have contained over 2.5 goals and you can get 10/11 for above that mark on Saturday.
Top Tip: Over 2.5 goals at 10/11.

Swindon Town vs. Yeovil Town
Swindon still hold ambitions of an automatic promotion place as they prepare to host bottom-of-the-table Yeovil on Saturday. The Robins sit six points behind second-placed Preston but still have a game in hand. Swindon are the odds-on favourites at 4/9 for a weekend win, Yeovil can be supported at 6/1 and the draw is an option at 100/30. Yeovil claimed a surprise 1-0 win over Sheffield United in midweek and are hoping to make it two surprise victories in a row against teams in the play-offs. Swindon have won their last couple of games after back-to-back 3-0 defeats. Ben Gladwin scored a hat-trick in the Robins’ 4-2 win at Rochdale on Tuesday night and is a massive 100/1 to repeat that treble against the Glovers. He can also be found at 8/1 in the first goalscorer market.
Top Tip: Ben Gladwin to score first at 8/1
