Grew praises players' attitude

Vale’s recent impressive run of five wins in six games will be put to the test on Tuesday night when Preston North End are the visitors to Vale Park, but Vale go into the game in a confident mood.

Saturday’s win over Crewe Alexandra gave Vale another three away points, and Assistant manager mark Grew has praised the attitude of the Vale players.

“It was an important result to keep the points tally ticking along. There were a lot of positives and a few negatives, especially in the first half when Crewe caught us out a bit with the way they played – they were a lot more direct than perhaps we anticipated. He said:

“We were possibly a bit fortunate to go in at 1-1 at half time, but once we got the goal just before the interval there was only going to be one winner.

“I think it shows that if we go a goal down now we don’t drop our heads, we believe in what we are doing and we have plenty of strikers in the squad who can get us goals.

“If you look around on our bench now, we have got goals there and all credit to the lads who came on on Saturday, they proved to us that they are pushing for a start.

“It is what we have been lacking in the past. I said recently we are inundated with goal scorers and forwards and you can’t have too many of them.

“When they come off the bench like Gavin Tomlin did, I thought he was super on Saturday when he came on. The squad is looking strong and I am very confident at the moment.

It is not only up tops where Vale’s strength lies, going by the performances since the heavy defeat at Swindon, and that is down to hard work on the training ground.

Grew says: “We have done a lot of hard work since the Swindon game. Every day since that game we have worked on the back four, one-on-ones, two-on-twos etc “
