Vale made the short trip into Shropshire to face a side gearing up for promotion from League Two, whilst Vale themselves had been in administration for just over the month and having had the stuffing knocked out of them, were fast slipping out of contention for a place off place.
There was, as ever, a huge following from the potteries, but they went home disappointed after a narrow defeat by the Shrews, the only goal of the game coming from Matt Richards, ten minutes into the second half.
