JONES RARING TO GO

21 January 2013

Vale's latest signing just wants to play football

Vale’s latest signing Daniel Jones is looking forward to the challenge here at Vale Park and says he just wants to be playing football.

He said: “I had a brilliant time with Sheffield Wednesday and enjoyed my time there, but I needed to leave because I need to play games, so I thank Port Vale and Micky Adams for giving me the opportunity to sign.

“I am still relatively young so I feel I have got a lot to offer. I am still developing as a player and I want to do that here and show everyone what I can do.

“I had the chance go to a League One club, but I just thought this would be a better move for me. Port Vale are flying, Micky Adams is a good manager and I know some of the boys here so that will help me settle in a lot quicker.

“Vale play some good football – I have watched a few games on TV – and I want to be part of something like that and it will be good for my career as well.

“I know Darren Purse from Sheffield Wednesday. He has had a great career in football and with his experience it will be brilliant here for all of the young players and he is a fantastic leader on the pitch.

“Lee Hughes scores goals and has scored goals throughout his career. I was with him at Oldham and Notts County for a little while and he is an absolute goal machine.

“Tom Pope has got twenty six goals so far this season so if you can get the ball into the box for them two it is going to end up in the net.

So much for his new team mates, but what can Daniel Jones offer to Port Vale Football Club?

“I am a full-back but I like to get forward and I like to attack a lot. I am first and foremost a defender but I like to get forward and that is a strong part of my game, getting balls into the box, and I have got lots of energy.

“The game on Thursday will be a good opportunity for the club to show what they can do. I hope I will be playing, but it’s all about the team and getting the three points on the board.

“The next few months will be massive for me and that’s the reason I wanted to leave Sheffield Wednesday. I am not one of those players who wants to sit around and pick up my money.

“If I don’t play on a Saturday it really hurts and that is all I want to do. I have had a few injury set-backs but now I am fully fit and I really want to push on and make a go at it.

“I want to prove a people wrong who have doubted me in the past and show what I can do and I would like to thank Micky Adams for giving me the opportunity.”
