Myrie-Williams ready for Oldham Athletic

Port Vale winger Jennison Myrie-Williams is hoping to continue his goalscoring exploits from last season in the SkyBet League 1 and has backed the team to continue where they left off last Saturday.

Vale recorded their first win of the season last Saturday and travel to Boundary Park to face Oldham Athletic tomorrow full of optimism after recording that illusive first win.

Myrie-Williams told Valiant Player:  “The main thing about last Saturday was to get the three points so we could get up and running.

“I thought our shape was good, I thought we had a bit more balance to the team.

“As a team I think we enjoy playing with two wingers.

“As players, from the first game of the season we always have wanted to go out and win the game.

“Our perspective was, the next game we will go out and get the win.”

“Getting that win does get the monkey off your back a little bit, makes us a bit more relaxed,” he explained.

Vale utilised the wide Vale Park pitch to great effect on Saturday, striker Tom Pope had said last week that Vale needed to get balls into the box more following the Colchester defeat and the wide-men duly delivered against Bradford City.

“Our job in games as wide players is to create chances or to get chances, whether it is us putting in the crosses or whether it’s the forwards putting in the crosses we have got to get balls into the box.”

Myrie-Williams scored an impressive 10 goals from the wing last season and the Vale number nine is targeting another fruitful campaign.

“I like scoring goals but an assist is just as good.

“I have targets, I don’t want to say my targets they are quite high, I always try to set high targets.

“I will keep chipping away and I am sure I will get to where I want to be.

“At the end of the day there’s no point scoring or assisting if you’re not winning the game, it doesn’t really mean much,” he said.

Myrie-Williams is expecting another tough match tomorrow as Vale look for their first away win of the season.

“I am expecting a tough game, every game in this division is tough, it is more about us and how we go there and approach the game.

“It’s about us approaching the game in the right way and I am sure we will get the right result.”
