MIDFIELDER ADVISES CAUTION

18 October 2012

Vale won't be underestimating Wycombe says Shuker

Midfielder Chris Shuker says there is no chance the lads will get above themselves when Wycombe Wanders visit Vale Park this season.

They know the league table means nothing, especially at this stage of the season and Gareth Ainsworth’s side will be shown exactly the same respect as any other opponents.

When you look at the Premier League, you look at Chelsea or at Arsenal as opposed to a bottom three team, there is a complete gulf in class, but not in this league. ‘Shukes’ said: “You don’t worry about league positions in this League.

“We are second but that is through our hard work and applying ourselves in the right way. If we go out there, the minute we don’t apply ourselves in the right way we will get stung, so we won’t be worrying about league positions, we will go out and treat them as though they are at the same level as us.”

Injuries and suspension will more than likely give Chris the opportunity to start after missing about for the last few matches, but he still isn’t sure who he could play alongside in the middle of the park.

He said: “There are a couple of other players who haven’t featured this season, who have been waiting for their chance. We don’t know the team yet so we don’t know what the manager might do.

“Hopefully Ryan Burge’s injury isn’t too bad, but he will miss Saturday’s game alongside Sam Morsy, who is suspended.

“That has been coming – he’s been picking up yellow cards here and there, but it will be good to get a little monkey off his back and get the suspension out of the way.

“He is only young and he will learn from it. When he gets a bit older he will realise that sometimes he might not be able to win the ball so he will ease off a bit, but he has been fantastic and that side of his game is what he is all about.”
