Adams expcting John Still's side to give everything

Micky Adams won’t be taking anything for granted when his side visit Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday, despite the contrasting fortunes of the two sides on Boxing Day.

Whilst Vale were recording an away win at promotion challenging Rotherham, John Still’s side were heading for a 3-0 home defeat to Southend United.

The Vale boss said: “People will look at Dagenham and think it will be easy three points down there now, but we will have to maintain our form and do the right things at the right times once again.

“It would be great to get back-to-back wins but we can’t expect to simply turn up and produce it.

“If we’re not right in terms of what we are doing and make sure we are mentally spot on, we’ll get nothing.

“We know what’s coming. John Still has a habit of producing players and teams that are always competitive, so you always know what you are going to get down at Dagenham.

“They will be smarting after losing to Southend and they are a wounded animal. If we don’t get it riht in terms of what we are thinking and doing and make sure our mentality to the game is spot on, we won’t get anything down there.

“If we prepare correctly for each game and show the effort and enthusiasm that we showed at Rotherham, then that will carry us a long way.”

Adams had the players in on Christmas Eve and again on Christmas Day and put them through their paces, but the Vale manager feels vindicated after the result against Rotherham.

He said: “I had them around the track, which they didn’t particularly enjoy, but I said to them after the Rotherham game, ‘that’s why we do it’.

“I was running them around the track and even I was cringing at some of the things I was doing with them, but that’s why we were in, because we are professionals.”
