Vale went close to adding a second goal on six minutes when Morsy teed up Dodds, but his shot missed the target by about a foot.

Despite the efforts of the home side, Vale were bossing things in the earl stages of the game, looking well organised and keen to play some football.

The home side almost hit back when they were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Threlfall attempted to curl the ball into Neal’s top left hand corner, but it struck the head of a defender before going out for a corner.

Louis Dodds showed his determination on the edge of the Morecambe box, forcing his wasy into the box, but his shot took a deflection to loop over the head of the ‘keeper and the ball dropped down on top of the net.

With the Vale goal well protected, Morecambe’s Richard brodie was forced o try his luck from 25 yards, but his low angled drive was well wide of Chris Neal’s goal.

minute when Kevin Ellison went past Doug Loft with ease, cutting inside to beat Neal at his near post.ndThe home side finally hit back with an equaliser in the 32

It was a bad goal to concede after looking quite solid in defence up to that point. Vale had taken their foot off the pedal and were punished for it.

Vale almost started the second half in a similar fashion to the first when Pope threaded the ball through for Vincent.

The winger kept on his feet despite being challenged inside the box, but Roche in the Morecambe goal anticipated where he was going to put the shot and made the save, moving to his left to puch the ball away.

The home side looked a completely different side in the second half, forcing Vale on to the back foot at every opportunity.

Boss Micky Adams was beginning to look more and more anxious, contemplating changes to his side to see if Vale could stem the attacking threat of the home side and cause a few problems of their own.

The Vale manager made his first change of the game midway through the second half when Rob Taylor came on to replace Jennison Myrie-Williams.

It was still the home side who were enjoying the better of things, however, and they wentclose to nudging themselves ahead when a shot from Brodie was turned away byNeal.

Vale made a second substitution on 72 minutes when Ben Williamson went on to replace Louis Dodds.

Three minutes later Vale made their third and final substitution when Darren Murphy cam on to replace Chris Shuker in the Vale midfield.

Vale rode their luck at times, but with the score level going into the final tenminutes their was always the hope the visitors could snatch victory with a late goal.

Sam Morsy won a free kick on the edge of the Morecambe box and took it himself, the ball taking a deflection off a defender to give Vale a corner kick.

The corner came on from the right and was met by Vale defender JOHN McCOMBE, whose bullet header gave Roche absolutely no chance.

In the fourth minute of stoppage time Vale wrapped things up when TOM POPE followed up when Ashley Vincent’s effort came back off the post to make the final score Morecambe 1 Port Vale 3.
