A right-back, who is comfortable both attacking and defending, Ben Purkiss signed a two year contract with the club after being released by Walsall. After spending three seasons with Walsall, Purkiss enjoyed arguably the best season of his career in the 2014-15 season when he played at Wembley for the Saddlers in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final against Bristol City.

During the 2014-15 season, Purkiss helped the Saddlers to keep 16 clean sheets in his 39 appearances and will be hoping to bring that form to Vale Park, as well as adding experience to the backline.

Purkiss made his first appearance for the club at Gresty Road in Vale's first game of the 2015-16 season, he has been an ever-present at right back since.
