Vale made the trip to Tranmere looking to make it two away wins and avenge last weeks home defeat against Walsall.

Both Davis and Thorley returned from injury and were put in the starting eleven.

Vale made a slow start and paid the penalty, when from a free kick the home side scored. Both sides then struggled to create any chances of note and it was Tranmere who went in at the break the happier.

Vale were forced to make a substitution when Evans who picked up an injury was replaced by Warner.

The visitors made a brighter start to the second half and kept possession well causing the home team problems. This produced a well worked goal and finish from Marland to level the scores. Vale pushed hard for the winner but got caught out with Tranmere scoring two quick goals to put the game out of reach of the Vale.
