Port Vale FC 1- 0 Macclesfield FC

Saturday 5th December 2009 at Moss Rose.

Starting line up:

In goal: Watson

Back four: Raglan, Christiansen, Bratt, Bell.

Midfield: Osei - Siribour, Beeston Morsy, Hague

Up front: McGowan, Malbon.

Subs: Johnson, Cox, Lloyd, Rice, Lee.

After recent starts, the Vale Youth got off the brighter of the two teams having more of the possession and creating chances. The majority of the good play came down the left hand side with Hague running at the Macclesfield players and getting decent crosses into the box. Vale certainly looked up for this game as everyone seemed to be winning their personal battles. The aggressive start and constant pressure was rewarded, when Beeston picked up the ball on the half way line and dribbled through the Macclesfield midfield and carried on beyond the defenders and finally rounded the keeper to finish off in style by slotting home into the bottom left corner - 1-0 to the Vale. Unfortunately the only downside to the first half was when yet again the Vale youth picked up another injury - this time to Siribour and on came schoolboy Lloyd to finish the first half.

Half time: Port Vale FC 1- 0 Macclesfield FC

The Vale came out in second half very much like the first, solid and organised at the back with good tackles and defensive headers. The midfield held the ball well and set the tempo of the game as the forwards worked tirelessly to close down and intercept. Macclesfield couldn't get into the game until the later stages when Watson was forced into wonderful save. Malbon (captain) was substituted on 75mins as he was working his way back from an injury and was replaced by another schoolboy, Jimmy Lee, and a well deserved break for Hague who had caused problems all game, saw a great return for Rice, who made a return from a nasty injury picked up at the end of last season which had resulted in a knee operation. Vale continued with good quality possession and the tempo set by the Vale controlled the game to the very end denying Macclesfield any opportunities to get back in the game.
