Saturday 3rd October 2009 at PVFC Training Ground.

Starting line up:

In goal: Watson

Back four: Raglan, Davis, Bratt, Bell

Midfield: Osei - Siribour, Morsy, Beeston, Hague

Up front: McGowan, Malbon.

The Vale made a poor start to their first Alliance Cup game of the season going 1-0 down within the first 5mins, a long ball directly from the Tranmere defence over the top of Bratt finding the striker through on goal with Watson to beat; as Watson came off his line the striker calmly slid the ball under him. Vale had to get started! But on the 20min they had another set back when an unnecessary corner wasn't cleared and a clinical strike from the edge of the box found the ball whistling into the top corner. A bad start from the youth who did well to keep the score down to 2-0 until the half time whistle.

Half time Port Vale FC 0 - 2 Tranmere FC

After a first half to forget, Vale came out fighting having to score two goals to get even, with the strong wind now in the favour of the Vale, the youth got at Tranmere with a good dribble from Siribour down the right wing he drove the ball into the box to find Malbon who neatly guides the ball inside the near post. Vales were on the up and created good chances to draw level, schoolboy Davis was carried off after a nasty collision with the Tranmere striker, Vale kept on attacking whilst keeping the oppositions chances to a minimum, and with 8mins left a floated free kick from Morsy was headed back across goal from Bratt and Malbon was there to finish again making it 2-2 the game then went straight into a penalty shoot out with both squads taking there penalties until the Vale centre half stepped up only to scuffthe ball and miss the final penalty.
