NEW VALE KIT
Vale's youngsters travel to the Reebok Stadium tonight for a fourth round FA Youth Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers and they will be sporting a brand new kit.
It caused a bit of a stir atthe club on Christmas Eve when eagle-eyed Club Secretary Bill Lodey spotted in the competition rule book that teams were not permitted to wear black.
We would not be able to wear the all white home kit either, as Bolton will be playing in white, so a change oif shirts was required.
On Christmas Eve, the problem was passed to our Merchandising Manager, Andy Burgess - not a bad Christmas present from Bill for Andy to sort out overthe festive period!
Fortunately, due to the excellent working relationship Andy has with kit suppliers Vandanel, he was able to sort things out and they managed to get a new set of shirts embroidered over the holiday period and delivered to the club yesterday.
Andy and his assistant, Ben Amos, managed to number all of the shirts ready to be packed for the match. The colour? Dutch orange, so we expect to see total football tonight.
We will reveal the new design later today, so make sure you pop back to have a look.
Don't worry, this isn't an attempt to get more money from our supporters. These shirts will not be going on sale in the club shop, they have only been ordered for the team to wear in tonight's game.
Mark Grew says he is more nervous watching the Vale youngsters than when he was playing himself, but he is looking forward to the game tonight.
Ha said: "It's not often we are as strong as this as a youth team. This is as strong a side as we have had for a number of years.
"We can learn more about them at the bigger grounds in front of bigger crowds. The further you go in this competition the more scouts start to come and watch you.
"The fans start to take a bigger interest and you live or die playing on the bigger grounds. We will ask questions and we will find some answers out.
"This is what the youth policy is all about. At the end of the day, your home grown players don't cost you any money, and for me, Danny Glover and James Lawrie are as good a pair of front men as there are in this competition.
"Andy Porter and myself have worked hard over the last couple of years to get this side together, along with Bill Chetwyn and the rest of the staff, so we are really looking forward to this game."
