An 86th goal from Dave Howland earned Port Vale a point as they drew 1-1 with Shrewsbury Town in tonight's reserve game.

The visitors had taken the lead in the game, only for the Northern Irish midfielder to equalise four minutes from time.

There were also positives in the game, with Joe Anyon and James Lawrie both returning from spells on the sidelines.

"There were pleasing aspects to the performance as it's great that we had two players return to action," said Vale boss Micky Adams.

"Joe had a quiet but effective performance and handled the ball well, so it was a confident return from him after such a serious injury.

"James Lawrie had his appendix out not too long ago so it's pleasing that he came through and played the 90 minutes tonight."
