The home side hit the Vale crossbar early on the in the game as the Saddlers got off to a lively start.

Calum Willock and Danny Glover each went close to firing Vale ahead, before Willock broke the deadlock with a 59th minute header.

Vale were forced on the back foot as Walsall went looking for an equaliser, but defended well and in the end were good value for their three hard-earned points.
