Posted on: Wed 25 Jan 2012

Staffs Senior Cup - Rushall Olympic 3 Port Vale 1

It all began well for what was a very young Vale side when they took the lead in the 5th minute. Grant Jeffries found space in the box and he lashed a shot into the top corner.

Briggs fired across the face of the goal as the home side hit back and then Charlie Raglan went close on more than one occasion from corners. A Sam Johnson slip allowed Dacres a sniff of goal but he was soon closed down by the Vale defence.

Joe Davis and Charlie Raglan were keeping the home side at bay but that began to change after substitute Ahmed Obeng entered the fray just before the hour mark.

First he raced clear of the offside trap with Johnson clearing from the edge of the box and then he scored the equaliser in the 78th minute. Melbourne centred from the right and Obeng was on hand to steer the ball home.

Vale's hopes were dashed two minutes from time when a cross by Haynes was headed home by Lewis to put Rushall into the lead.

Obeng rounded off the scoring in the third minute of injury time after breaking clear with Vale on the attack trying to force an equaliser.
