After weeks of waiting to see whether the friendly match against Manchester City will go ahead, the uncertaintly is finally over.

Following Sven-Goran Eriksson's appointment this week Martin Foyle was keen to find out whether or not the game - billed as his Benefit Match - would go ahead.

Unfortunately when the new Manchester City manager made his decision, it was bad news as far as the Vale boss is concerned.

He said: "The game is now definitely off. Obviously I am disappointed, but I understand that Sven will want to make his own plans.

"I am hoping we can arrange another game, maybe during the week set aside for Internationals, but in the mean time we will just get on with things and concentrate on the new season."
