A 2-1 home win over LincolnCity at the weekend ensured the Spireites remained in the play-off places, but with Accrington Stanley three points behind them with three games in hand, you could excuse the Derbyshire outfit if they were feeling a little jittery.

A fantastic home record this season - nobody in League Two has won as many home games - has ensured Chesterfield are at the right end of the table as they seek to gain promotion this season.

With the building of a new stadium well on the way, their players and supporters alike would like nothing more than to be playing their football in a higher division when they move to their new ground next season.

The one thing letting them down is their form away from Saltergate. Their eight defeats on their travels have only been 'bettered' by three other sides. Only Barnet, Lincoln and Darlington have lost more away matches.

Despite their poor away form, they have already beaten leaders Rochdale and second placed Bournemouth at Spotland and the Fitmess First Stadium respectively, and more recently they added Morecambe to the list of sides beaten away from home.

Chesterfield have lost six of their last twelve games, so perhaps given their failings away from Saltergate, the odds will sway in Vale's favour tonight.

Vale's defeat at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday saw their first loss in seven outings, and the first goal conceded in four games.

Micky Adams knows full well the reality of the situation is that facts and figures mean absolutely nothing on the night - it is all about which team puts in the performance, has more desire and willingness to work their socks off - plus a pinch of luck thrown in.

The Vale boss has threatened to make changes following the defeat at Burton Albion, but it is anybody's guess who will miss out tonight.
