ADAMS: NO EXCUSES

Posted on: Sat 28 Aug 2010

Micky Adams refused to make excuses for his Port Vale side as they lost 2-1 to Torquay United at Vale Park this afternoon.

The Valiants found themselves 2-0 down in the game, before a screamer from Anthony Griffiths - his first competitive goal for the club - gave Vale a lifeline.

However, it wasn't to be, with the away team maintaining their 100% start to the season.

"I am disappointed," said Micky. " You have to give some credit to Torquay but the start of our game wasn't right. We have to be better than that. We have to start with an intensity and a passion and show people we mean business. We sat off them and were quickly 2-0 down.

"For the second goal, I was disappointed that my substitute wasn't ready to go on. He should have been kitted out and ready to go. We were a man short and we needed someone to go and attack the long throw. We didn't do it."

Despite a long trip to Fulham in midweek, the Vale boss maintains that his side should have done better against Paul Buckle's men.

"I'm not making excuses. I will sit here and defend my players all day individually but some in the last two games have been bang average.

"We scored a goal and we've had chances as well. We created chances but we didn't take them - that has cost us."
