It is with great sadness we have to report the death of former Vale midfielder John Green, who passed away just weeks after finding out he was suffering from cancer.

John played in the top flight for Blackpool and moved to Vale Park in September 1967, initially on loan, before signing on a permanent basis in November 1968.

He was an ever-present during Vale's 1969-70 promotion season and was voted Player of the Year, but in May 1971 he was given a free transfer and moved to Northwich Victoria as player manager.
