Although our first home league fixture of the 2010/11 season is still over eight weeks away, preparation is well under way behind the scenes at Vale Park.

Head Groundsman, Steve Speed, speaks exclusively to Valiant Player to give supporters an insight into the hard work involved for the ground to be ready for the first home game against Chesterfield on 14th August.

Steve describes the unsociable hours involved in his job, " We come in at 4am to set up and run the sprinklers until 9.30am, wait for the grass to dry before starting to cut it."

He is always keen to see the fixtures especially over the Christmas and New Year period, "We're at home on Boxing Day so we'll be working most of Christmas Day and even though we're away on New Year's Day, I'll be in as the players will still be training ."

To find out what's on Steve's wish list if the Club had unlimited funds, check out the full interview on Valiant Player.
