TOMLINSON AGREES DEAL

Posted on: Sat 29 May 2010

Port Vale has agreed a one-year contract with goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson.

The 25-year-old passed a medical at Vale Park ahead of the Bank Holiday and will sign his new deal when the players report for pre-season training on July 1.

Tomlinson has spent the majority of his career at local rivals Crewe Alexandra, where he progressed through the youth team before breaking into the first eleven. He left Gresty Road in the summer of 2009 and spent last season playing for Barrow in the Football League Conference.

The shot-stopper is no stranger to Vale Park having trained with the club during pre-season last summer, although he later left as the club already had three professional goalkeepers and were not in a position to offer him a permanent contract.

Said manager Micky Adams: "We are delighted to offer Stuart a contract with Port Vale after he so nearly joined the club last summer.

"He is a keeper with tremendous agility, who is renowned for his shot-stopping, and we have the benefit of knowing all about him after working with him for a short spell last season.

"Stuart is aware that he will have tough competition for the number one spot in Chris Martin, but he is ready for the challenge and looking forward to being back in the Football League."
