Micky Adams was a frustrated man after seeing his side draw 1-1 against Cheltenham Town on Saturday.
The Valiants had taken the lead against Cheltenham, only for an equaliser from the home side to take a share of the spoils.
"In the first half we played really well," said Micky. "There are obvious turning points in games and we got a good early lead and looked like we were going to go on and win it comfortably.
"The chance just before they scored was the turning point - when their keeper has made the save - and to come in at 1-1 at half-time was a real kick in the teeth for us. We had seen enough in the game to be nice and positive in the second half and unfortunately, we weren't.
"Our goal was a decent move. Craig Davies did well on the right hand side and Tom Fraser has put a decent ball into the box and John got on the end of it.
"They were resolute and I've got to be honest that the longer the game went on, I thought Cheltenham could have won it.
"I can't keep denying that we're not involved in the race but we have obviously got to perform better than we did against Cheltenham, particularly in the second half. It was a lethargic, tired second half."
An error from Joe Anyon led to the equaliser from the home side, but Micky refused to publicly criticise his keeper.
"The press will report on what they have seen and that will be harsh enough punishment for him. It was a mistake. I don't want to add any fuel to the fire.
"We think we have got nine big games coming up and Crewe is the start of them. "Obviously we would have wanted three points against Cheltenham and we're disappointed that we've not got them but it's a point and that point might be a bonus point for us at the end of the season."
