ADAMS: APPLICATION WAS THERE
Micky Adams admitted that Port Vale didn't create enough chances at the Pirelli Stadium this afternoon, but added that his side would be looking to bounce straight back against Chesterfield on Tuesday night.
A first-half goal from the Brewers was enough to take all three points in a closely fought contest with a Craig Davies shot against the post the closest Vale came to taking something from the fixture.
"In terms of application in the game, I don't think anyone can fault that or that can ever be questioned," said the manager.
"Did we do enough to get anything out of the game? I think that on chances, yes we did because there was very little in it. We conceded a sloppy goal from a throw-in really which is disappointing and there were a few chances from both teams, although I thought we had the better chances.
"We were two honest hard-working teams which cancelled each other out. We are disappointed obviously. We didn't start the game like I felt we should have and I think that cost us.
"It's always frustrating when you lose. We came here with a game-plan and we didn't implement it. That's disappointing and there are lessons to learn for the players
"Burton's game-plan upset us and when we got to grips with it, it was too late."
The Vale boss added that he may make changes for the visit of the Spireites on Tuesday night.
"That's the beauty of the game. Regardless of whether we win or lose, nothing will be decided and there are 19 games to go. We have an honest, hard-working bunch of players and we will push on from here.
"We go back to square one now. Generally I try and stick with the lads that have done the business and all that happens when you lose a game of football is that it's your right and your prerogative to change the side as you see fit."
Micky also had praise for the 2000 Vale supporters to made the short trip to Burton on Trent this afternoon.
"There was terrific support. The fans will be disappointed today as we all are but they will go away and realise that we have had a go - we haven't rolled over and let them tickle our bellies. It's not our style.
"In terms of creating chances - we've hit the post, Dodds has had a great chance first-half and so has Rob Taylor. We have created a little bit and not enough. That's the major disappointment from my point of view."
