Albert Leake

Posted on: Wed 17 Nov 2004

A local lad, Albert joined Vale in February 1950, having previously played for Stoke and he made his debut for the Valiants in a 3-1 defeat at Bristol City 13 months later.

One of the "Heroes of '54", he was part of the side which won the Third Division (North) championship in 1954 and in fact netted our goal in the 2-1 FA Cup Semi Final defeat against West Bromwich Albion in the same year - he also had a goal disallowed, which would have put the two sides on level terms.

He was an ever-present when Vale won the Fourth Division championship in 1958/1959, but in January 1961 he moved to pastures new, signing for Macclesfield Town, where he later became manager.
