TEN DAYS OF CHRISTMAS CRACKERS

Posted on: Tue 04 Jan 2011

This Christmas, The Football League and npower are calling on fans to ditch the telly and flock to their local League club as part of their Festive Family Football campaign.

In an action packed ten-day period between Boxing Day and January 4, the npower Football League boasts four full fixture programmes - a total of 144 matches - providing families with the perfect chance to get together and enjoy competitive football in a friendly, safe environment.

And with the big Boxing Day games traditionally the best attended match of the year - drawing 400,000 fans through the turnstiles in 2009 - fans are guaranteed a great atmosphere throughout the Christmas football feast.

Gavin Megaw, Director of Marketing and Communications at The Football League, said: "Attending npower Football League games this Christmas will provide families with the perfect opportunity to support their clubs and spend some quality time together watching quality football.

"I would encourage any fans looking for a break from turkey and Christmas repeats to head along to Port Vale and show them your support."

Find our Family Friendly Fixtures at http://www.port-vale.co.uk/page/Fixtures/0,,10381,00.html. If the visit of Lincoln City on Boxing Day is half as exciting as it was last season when we were 3-0 ahead after 15 minutes it should be a Christmas cracker! Our other holiday home game is on Monday 3rd January when we host a Staffordshire derby against Burton Albion.

And, in just 50 words, The Football League wants to hear from fans explaining why watching football during the Christmas period is so special - with the best bagging four tickets to February's Carling Cup Final.

Five runners up will receive a copy of one of this year's most talked-about games, EA Sports' Fifa 11.

Entries should be sent to FestiveFootball@football-league.co.uk by 5pm on Tuesday 4 January.

Fans are being reminded they can switch to npower and get a £45 voucher to spend in any npower Football League club shop. Visit www.npower.com/footballsaver for more information1pm

're always looking for new ways to engage with fans and families

and when we learnt of Bristol City's First Cap initiative we were so

impressed we asked them if we could launch it on a national scale.

That's why on Thursday we proudly launched the npower Football

League F1RST CAP campaign with none other than ex England and

Bristol City poster boy, David James, at the helm! The scheme will see

kids up and down the country receive an exclusive baseball cap and

certificate to mark their first ever football match and make it an even

more special occasion. We'd just like to take this opportunity to thank

all the clubs in all 3 leagues for supporting this activity and giving us

some great feedback - rest assured we'll be getting back to all of you

as soon as we can. We're keen to get this off to a flying start so once

we're fully up and running we will start looking at how we can make

this even better going on your suggestions!
