BETTING OPPORTUNITY

Posted on: Mon 19 Jan 2009

Strewth! Andy Murray is 9/4 joint-favourite with Roger Federer for the Australian Open which starts this week.

The young Scot has been the best player in the world for the last six months, while at the same time his main rivals seem to have gone backwards. He's beaten Federer in all his recent meetings and proved he has the beating of Rafael Nadal (7/2) and Novak Djokovic (6/1) as well. Furthermore, he has a terrific draw, so the ball's very much in his court so to speak.

The betting for the Women's title is wide-open with bet365 going 3/1 'the field' - a price shared by the Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, with Jelena Jankovic next best at 11/2. If you're looking for some value, though, there are several Russians in the draw capable of defying their odds, most notably Dinara Safina (10/1).

It all gets under way on Monday and bet365 are giving it their best shot (an ace perhaps!) by pricing up every single match - both pre-match and in-play. Still not registered with bet365? Well, you'll love (excuse the pun) their account opening offer of £100 free bets to place on a sporting market of your choice - Andy Murray to win the Australian Open perhaps?
