Tony Naylor Looking Forward To Legends Game

29 June 2015

Tony Naylor’s Legends Game between Port Vale and Crewe Alexandra is now less than a month away and he can't wait to get back on the pitch.

The forward spent seven years at Vale Park as a player having started his career at Gresty Road in the early 1990s. He made over 350 league appearances for the clubs combined.

The likes of ex-teammates Micky Cummins, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and Robin Van der Laan are set to play on July 26th with kick-off scheduled for 1.30pm.

“It’s always good, you don’t see them that often these days so it’s really good when you all get together and it was a great event last year,” he said. “Fingers crossed it will be the same this year.”

Tony added: “I’m really looking forward to be honest with you. It’s one of those where I need to start training!

“I’ve been saying it for week and weeks and weeks and then another week goes by and I realise I need to start now.

“I just hope that we get a really nice, warm day and the people of Stoke-on-Trent and South Cheshire, everyone comes and supports the event.”

The Legends Game is geared towards raising money for Alzheimer’s and cancer charities. Alzheimer’s is a disease that directly affects Tony’s family and the 48-year-old has stressed the importance of raising awareness of the illness.

“It’s really important to me because obviously my dad suffers from it but this does not benefit him directly,” he added.

“There are thousands and thousands of families out there who it does affect and especially around this area.

“So if we can make the slightest bit of difference then surely it’s got to be well worth doing.”
