WHERE TO PARK

There is plenty of street parking behind the away end.

THE STADIUM

on stilts reached by a long ladder. The West Stand has a double barrel roof extending round to the North Stand. There are supporting pillars and a TV gantry standing The small two tiered, all seater South Stand is at one end. The upper level over hangs the lower and both have a number of pillars.

Opposite that is the East Stand, again a single tiered stand which has a row of executive boxes. Although Roots Hall is quite an old ground it does have modern turn stiles which read bar codes on match day tickets – stewards being alerted when concession tickets are being used enabling them to check they are being used correctly.

WHERE THE VALIANTS WILL BE SEATED

The 1,200 visiting fans can be housed in the North Stand which was originally used by the home supporters. It is covered and all seated but like most converted terracing the leg room and height of seats are not the most generous to say the least! Recent seasons have seen the Vale restricted to one corner of this stand – not the most welcoming as the rest of the stand remains empty. There are a number of supporting pillars to obscure the view of the match, but its redeeming feature is that the acoustics ensure that even a small gathering of fans can make a noise.

FOOD

A brilliant chippy called the Fish House is across the road from Roots Hall, but you have to walk the long way round if the stewards refuse to let you through the main car park. The normal food is available at the ground with a small room with tables and chairs just inside the ground.

DRINK

No alcohol is available for away fans inside the stadium! Some times away supporters are allowed into the Shrimpers Bar at the ground. If not then the Blue Boar, just along from the main car park, is probably the nearest pub.
