Rob Page Reflects On Loss To Coventry City

  • Vale boss disappointed with loss to Sky Blues
  • Page thinks his side should have scored in early exchanges
  • Manager now looking ahead to Crawley game

Rob Page thinks Port Vale’s inability to take advantage of their early dominance against Coventry City cost his side dearly.

Goals from Reda Johnson and Gary Madine ensured the Sky Blues took three points away from Vale Park, bringing an end to the Valiants’ five match home unbeaten run in League One.

The hosts were on top for the majority of the first half but could not convert their early superiority into a breakthrough.

Speaking to Valiant Player following the game, Vale boss Page admitted his players perhaps lacked their usual attacking prowess.

“I thought we started the brighter of the two teams; what we didn’t manage to do was score a goal within that time,” he said.

“I think it’s important that when you’re on top you try and get a goal and it paid a little bit later on.

“We knew they were going to be defensively sound, well organised and we had to be patient in our build up and I thought some of our combination play, some of our forward play wasn’t up to the standard of previous games.”
