Players & Staff Help The Cause At Vale Park
Port Vale’s players and staff helped to raise the profile of National Obesity Awareness Week on Tuesday as Cambridge Weight Plan visited the club with a Seca Medical Body Composition Scanner.
Striker Tom Pope, midfielder Michael O’Connor, defender Chris Robertson, coach Mark Grew and club chairman Norman Smurthwaite all took part with a view to helping the cause.
Independent Cambridge Weight Plan Consultants Dean Sidley, Emma Bryan and Jeff Dean spent the afternoon at Vale Park as part of a road show taking place to raise awareness of the dangers of obesity and how to lead a healthier life.
The Seca Medical Body Composition Scanner used is one of only a few in the entire country and takes a number of readings from the body, including body mass index, muscle/fat mass and skeletal muscle mass.
The machine will be visiting a number of locations across the area this week; Stone, Hanley, Newcastle, Crewe and Nantwich, giving members of the public the chance to get a scan free of charge.

Speaking about the visit to Vale Park, Dean Sidley of Brampton Weight Loss Centre based in Newcastle-under-Lyme said: “What a great start to the week.
“Vale have been very generous and donated a prize for our raffle, which I’m not sure I’m going to hand out yet, someone is going to have to prize it away from me, being a Vale fan.
“It’s been brilliant, we’ve had Tom Pope and Mark Grew, to name a few, who have just been on and been scanned.
“They went away smiling so I don’t think we gave them too much bad news and we’ll see as the week goes on whether anyone can beat them on the readings because I think there were pretty low readings from some of the players we’ve just had on.”
He added: “Whilst every year we all start the January club and try to make those changes, year on year obesity levels are getting more and more in the UK.
“So whatever we’re doing, it isn’t right. We are doing something wrong. This is the second year National Obesity Awareness Week has run, Cambridge Weight Plan have been major supporters to that event.
“As Independent Cambridge Consultants in the area as a collective we are just trying to give back and support the local area and that’s why we’re doing the road show and offering the scanner for free over the local area over the week.”
