Striker Speaks To Press After Coventry Loss
- Forward delighted to have made Vale debut
- Wants to now push for regular place in Rob Page's side
- Nimely disappointed at loss to Sky Blues
New Port Vale signing Alex Nimely has set his sights on nailing down a starting position after making his debut during Saturday’s loss to Coventry City.
Nimely recently joined the club until the end of the 2014/15 season and was a 66th minute substitute during the 2-0 defeat.
The ex-Manchester City striker hopes he can soon be one of the first names on Rob Page's team sheet.
Speaking to the press, he said: “I spoke to the gaffer and he discussed that he wanted me to get more games under my belt and after two or three games I feel I can back to full fitness.
“I’m an all round player. I like to get on the ball, dictate the play and score goals so hopefully I can try and create and score goals for the team.”
The 23-year-old joined current Premier League champions Manchester City in November 2009 and made his first and only league appearance for the club during 6-1 win over Burnley in April 2010.
Since then, he has been on loan at various of Football League clubs including Middlesbrough, Crystal Palace and the team he made his Vale debut against, Coventry City.
After making his first appearance for the Valiants, Nimely expressed his joy and relief at being back on the pitch.
“It was really, really good. My family and everyone was calling me and praying for me because for a long time I haven’t played so I’m very grateful," the forward said.
“I’ve been injured for a while and getting twenty minutes under my belt was good but the result was disappointing because I’m a winner but there’s still a long way to go so hopefully we can get things right.”
Despite the defeat, he is determined to help the team bounce back next weekend at Crawley.
“When I came on we wanted to score goals and we didn’t have much time on the ball to play and that’s what I like to do," he added.
"I’m very mobile but unfortunately the ball was going too long because we were forcing our way through to score. We just have to make it right the next game.”
