Mark Grew To Depart Vale Park

Goalkeeping Coach To Leave Post

Mark Grew has confirmed he will be leaving Port Vale, bringing an end to his 25-year association with the club.

The 57-year-old announced live on BBC Radio Stoke that he would be stepping aside from his role as goalkeeping coach.

Grew’s quarter-century affiliation with the Valiants began in 1986 when he signed for the club from Ipswich Town. He won Vale’s Player of the Year award twice – in 1989 and 1992 respectively.

The shot-stopper left Vale Park following the 1991/92 season to join Cardiff City and retired from football just a few years later.

He rejoined Vale shortly after as a youth coach before being appointed as assistant manager under then-boss Brian Horton.

Former goalkeeper Grew was made caretaker manager three times and, having worked under Micky Adams as assistant manager, was named goalkeeping coach and scouting coordinator in 2014.

He continued in that role under current boss Rob Page but has now decided to leave the club.

Everyone at the club would like to thank Mark for his incredible service and wish him all the very best for the future.
