PRESS DUTY: Frederic Veseli Reveals Dean Glover Impact

16 December 2014

Best Bits Of Defender's Press Conference

  • Loanee pleased with how he is performing at the moment
  • Former Man City trainee happy playing at centre half
  • Veseli says focus is now on Crawley Town

Port Vale defender Frederic Veseli has revealed the positive impact coach Dean Glover has had on his playing style.

The former Manchester City trainee, on loan from Sky Bet Championship side Ipswich Town, has been a regular under Vale boss Rob Page over the last few weeks.

He has impressed with his confidence on the ball and willingness to come out from defence and play in the opposition’s half.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday afternoon, the 22-year-old told of how Glover - also a technically gifted defender during his playing days - has been helping him.

“Dean [Glover] is really involved with the team; he’s there all the time, we do some extra work together in the end, some individual work,” he said.

“He keeps talking to me and the others obviously, he gives me some advice and I have to take it on board and try and bring it to the game.

“It works well, I try and show my qualities on the ball and try and keep calm and play with it because that’s the way I like to play and that’s the way football is evolving.”

Since the home win against Rochdale last month, Veseli and Chris Robertson have been ever-presents at centre back for the Valiants.

It’s a position the Swiss youngster is used to playing from his spell at Bury earlier this year and one he is thoroughly enjoying at the moment.

“Playing centre half, I’m really enjoying it. I have a good partnership with the defence and the whole team really,” he said.

“If I can have a career at centre half - why not? And if someone wants to use me as a right back - why not? And if someone else wants to use me as a centre midfielder – why not?

“I’m comfortable playing all three positions as I said before; I’m really concentrating on playing well at the minute and I’m playing centre half so that’s the position I need to concentrate on and give my best.”

On the back of Saturday’s home loss to Coventry City, Vale make a long trip south to take on Crawley Town at Broadfield Stadium this coming weekend.

Veseli believes the game against John Gregory’s side is made even more important by the close proximity of Crawley to the Valiants in the League One table.

“If you play against teams in and around you, it gives you a little advantage if you beat them and it’s really important to give it your all,” he added.

“It’s not necessarily one game that counts, it’s the whole season, but it is obviously more important to beat the teams in and around you and get away from that pack, upwards instead of downwards.

“We’ve got to stay focused and confident, go into Crawley and give our best and try and perform as well as we’ve been performing away the past away games and keep it going.”
