Club Helps Local Netball Star Brogan Griffiths

3 September 2015

Local netball star Brogan Griffiths went on the Vale Park pitch at half time on Tuesday evening to raise awareness of her efforts to raise £3,000.

The 21-year-old from Caverswall is hoping to compete for England under-23s at the indoor netball World Series as captain later this month but must fund the trip to Australia herself.

She was invited to the ground for the club’s midweek JPT first round clash with Carlisle United to enjoy hospitality and to help publicise her efforts.

“Having played netball for many years, the opportunity to represent my country for a second year is amazing,” she said.

“Not only have I been selected as a squad member, I have also been given the honour to lead and captain the England under-23 squad, something which I am very proud of.

“This is a fantastic opportunity which due to a lack of sporting grants within this category means I have to self-fund the tour which comes at a cost of £3,000.

“I would be extremely grateful for any contribution which will help me fulfill my dream in leading the squad out in Australia.”

Indoor netball is a slight variation of the original version of the sport and is played at a faster pace on a pitch enclosed in netting.

Brogan, who graduated from Staffordshire University earlier this year, has been playing it since she was around seven-years-old and was part of the country's under-21 team that competed in the 2014 World Championships.
